At SIHH 2014, IWC unveiled completely renewed Aquatimer collection. The most basic Aquatimer timepiece is the Aquatimer Automatic which is at the same time the smallest one in this range with the diameter of only 42mm. This timepiece recalls the very first Aquatimer from 1967 with its purist dial design and the quarter-hour scale on the internal rotating bezel.

The redesigned Aquatimer Automatic features the new internal/external bezel system and pure 3-handed dial. This newcomer boasts one more technical improvement – its water resistance has been increased from 120 meters to amazing 300 meters (about 1,000 feet).
The new bezel system gives the watch a more sophisticated look and feel, despite the addition of a protective cover for the sliding clutch mechanism on the left-hand side of the case. Thanks to the polished and satin-finished surfaces, the new watch leaves premium-quality appearance. Also, a discreet combination of colors and shapes makes the new Aquatimer perfectly appropriate for water activities, for an expedition to the Galapagos, as well as for daily business meetings.
The watch’s case is crafted from stainless steel, just like its bezel which has been directly inspired by the Porsche Design, designed Ocean
2000 timepiece that Schaffhausen-based manufacturer produced in the early 1980s.
The watch is equipped with the caliber 30120 mechanical movement that is capable to keep the watch ticking for about 42 hours when it is fully charged. The self-winding mechanism has a beating rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and it is built on 21 jewels.
The new external/internal rotating bezel mechanism is tooled with the IWC SafeDive system which combines the ease of use with safety. The rotation of the external bezel is transmitted via a patent-registered sliding clutch mechanism to the rotating bezel with a triangular index and a dive time scale on the inside of the case.
